The 2009 tournament attracted 36 teams, but we had no overseas teams, not even from across Cook Strait. Perhaps a symptom have hard economic times. However at 36 teams it is still the biggest tournament in the Bay for the season, and a good time was had by all.
Although we didn't get teams from too far afield, it was great to see that teams that had perhaps travelled the furthest, did very well in the fishing. Ohakune entered two teams, with Ohakune "B" catching marlin on both Friday and Saturday, and Ohakune "A" catching a marlin on Saturday as well. So Ohakune "B" took out the trophy for Champion Team Overall. Ohakune "A" were also in the money and contributed to the trophy for best region, going to the "Western Region". So very well done Ohakune, although you were out numbered by Northern Region anglers by a big margin, you still kicked butt !
So, many thanks to all the participating teams, our many generous sponsors, and the local fire fighters who gave of their time to make the event a real success.
