The 2008 tournament was well attended (with none of the bad weather problems of last year) and a good time was had by all.
Highlight of the tournament was a Blue Marlin weighing in at 160.8kg, caught by local angler Dianne Tito-Salive, of the "Russell Ladies" team. This fish earned Dianne and the team a number of prizes including Heaviest Gamefish, Champion Angler, Champion Team, and others. And the amount of "loot" they took away was impressive, thanks to some great sponsors.
Also, because Dianne is a member of the Bay Of Islands Swordfish Club, this fish earned her 2 additional prizes later in the year at the BOISC prizegiving. Prizes were the "Kura Beale Trophy" for the heaviest Blue Marlin by a lady angler, and the "Neville Fuller Memorial Trophy" for most points for a single fish. Congratulations Dianne and the team.
So, many thanks to all the participating teams, our many generous sponsors, and the local fire fighters who gave of their time to make the event a real success.
